Constructing a Love Sigil

Sigils are symbols that that invoke a specific intention; they are visible representations of spells or intentions. Sigils have also been used to represent deities or entities.

Search the internet or witchcraft books and you will find instructions on creating love sigils for the purpose of attracting a love, finding a lost love, repairing a damaged romantic relationship, etc.

For me, personally, I have a spouse of almost twenty years, and our relationship is built on mutual respect, love, shared goals, and just a firm belief that we are in this together, with no exceptions. We are each other’s support and help and encouragement, in whatever we pursue.

So, while I am not in the market for attracting a new love or finding a lost love, what I did want to do is create a sigil that accomplished two things:

First, I wanted a visual representation of us as a single entity. Of course we are individuals, but we are also a single unit, together, and not able to be divided. We encourage each other and take up the slack when one of us falls short. I wanted a sigil that represented US that I could include when doing spell work that involved my spouse.

Second, while we aren’t looking for new love or hoping for a long lost lover to return to us, what we do hope for is that we would continually pursue the other, continue to grow in love, be each other’s help-meet in all things, and remain committed to our relationship, even in the face of stress and hardship. In essence, this sigil represents my intention that our relationship be fortified, from the inside and outside.

For the actual forming of the sigil, I took the letters of our two names, and deconstructed the letters into their individual strokes. Several of this strokes could be overlapped. I then rearranged these strokes into a single symbol that I found aesthetically pleasing and that resonated with me.

For the charging of the sigil, I prepared my alter, setting up my work area with the items I would need:

Small jar with cork (small spell jar)
Three small pieces of paper (I keep small squares of paper nearby for manifestations etc)
White tea candle
Pink Spell Candle
Pink Salt
Rose Petals (dried)
Clear Quartz
Rose Quartz

First, I purified my alter space with smoke and sound.

I lit the white tea candle.

I then lit the pink spell candle. Around the base of the pink candle I placed rose petals, a small pile of pink salt, the clear and rose quartz (I chose small enough stones that would fit in my jar, chips would work well for this).

I invoked the elements.

I copied the sigil onto the three small papers – two copies for us to carry with us, and one to store in a jar at our family alter.

I then charged the sigil by speaking the meaning of the sigil – using concise language and positive statements. I held pictures of us throughout our relationship in my mind while I spoke, and then visualized the remainder of our lives together.

I then prepared a spell jar to hold a copy of the sigil. I put a small amount of salt, followed by some rose petals and then placed the sigil. I added the quartz pieces. I closed the jar and sealed with pink candle wax.

I let the candles burn down completely, taking time to think over our relationship history and again envisioning what I wanted for our future, and then put the sigil jar on my personal alter shelf. The remaining sigils went into our personal trinket pouches we each carry with us.
